Cancer creates an enormous strain on a family – both emotionally and financially. It is our purpose to insure that a family afflicted with cancer can put all of their efforts into supporting their loved one instead of struggling to pay bills or dealing with ordinary living expenses.
Sock Out Cancer assists families who have been referred by case workers at the region’s two largest cancer centers – Lourdes Hospital and UHS. The program services will be administered by Lourdes Hospital Foundation and the UHS Foundation which will jointly establish guidelines to insure that all families assisted will be treated fairly and equitably.
To ease the financial burden the family will be provided rent or mortgage assistance, help with utility bills, gift cards for gas stations and grocery stores and other financial assistance that may be required.
Sock Out Cancer receives its financial support through donations from local businesses, the public and from fundraising events. Some of the events that are currently being planned are a concert to be held at the Broome County Forum in March of 2017 in conjunction with a gala fundraiser.
